Hip-Hop Splurge

I haven't updated this blog in like two weeks because well there is not too much to talk about in Hip-Hop. The culture is slowly dying again and its borning quite frankly. But for the past 2 weeks I have been splurging on some old classics that were either stolen, lost (stolen) or I had them on cassette and I needed to upgrade. There is nothing better then a classic rap album. Just take a look at the CD I have purchased in the span of 2 weeks. Count em up.

Thats 13 CD in a span of 14 days. Now I know that Day26 and Danity Kane does not qualify as Hip-Hop. Although if you do not have Day26 you are playing yourself. That is a great album. Out of all of those CDs I just can't stop listening to A Tribe Called Quest "Low End Theory" and The GZA "Liquid Swords". The GZA city is one of those albums that has been overlooked, he is a great lyrisist and he is highly education. Wu-Tang in the early 90s were untouchable.

Enough with all of this dumb shit. "Get Silly", "Crank that Batman", and the rest of that garabge. As a Hip-Hop head I refuse to let all of the great music die and for that reason I will continue to proudly listen to all of that classic music. However, I need to slow down because Borders is taking all of my money.

Long Live real Hip-Hop!

We Reminisce...Digital Underground

How dope was a Digital Underground? Many people dont' appreciate this group because they are only known for "Humpty Hump" but they had some cuts. Shock G, Tupac, and Humpty were all so different but they made it work. They was not lyrical genius' but they were dope and every time one of their cuts came on you was singing along. So this is Digital Underground, I miss the old days, so i guess i will Reminisce

The Roots "Things Fall Apart"

Why don't The Roots get their just due? Well just listen to the intro of "Things Fall Apart". They don't play the music that people don't normally listen to. Today I re-purchased this legendary album and I forgot just how great this CD was. Black Thought is a crazy lyricist and what makes him so great is that he raps to a live band. The Roots always displayed a message in their music and for over 15 years that hasn't changed.

If you don't have this album you need to check out songs like "Setp Into The Relm"

you also need to listen to "The Spark"

This album is damn near a classic. Just look at the CD cover it makes you want to buy the CD.

What is greater and more orginal than a rapper who performs every song with a live band? This album is Hip-Hop at its best. And I am always going to highlight good music.

Long Live Real Hip-Hop.

Yo What Happen To....G-Dep

So yesterday I was looking through my CD collection. I was'nt searching for anything in particular, I was wanting to hear something that I haven't heard in while, low and behold I found G-Dep. Dep was not the best rapper in the world, but his CD "Child Of The Ghetto" was slept on. His unorthdox flow engaged the listners and his stories were very entertaining. I guess when you are an artist on Bad Boy it doesn't always equal success. If you haven't this joint check it out. Its hot. Its called "Chlid Of The Ghetto".

Hip Hop Albums You Must Have-If You Are A Hip-Hop Head!

Hip-Hop Head Must Have.

A lot of people are talking bout how much they love Hip-Hop, but in reality they don’t have the material are knowledge to back up that statement. When you are a true Hip-Hop head there are a few Albums that you MUST have in your collection. There is no excuse for not having these Albums in your collections. I know that I can go a little too deep so I will try to keep it simple…Lets go

1). Nas-Illmatic. This is Hip-Hop’s best album EVER (yeah I said it). Nas took the game by storm when this drop, and if you ask around or look on the Internet everyone will list Illmatic as the best album ever. A true Hip-Hip head must own this classic material.

2). Notorious Big- Ready To Die. Big is arguably the best rapper to ever grace the mic, and this album is just as impressive as Illmatic, Big is a monster on the mic and Ready To Die made us feel like we were gangsta. You Must own this album if you are a Hip-Hop Head.

3) Jay-Z. Reasonable Doubt. Obvious reasons. Hip-Hop didn’t really catch on to this album, until later in his career. But You must own this CD.

4). Dr. Dre-The Chronic. You are not going to find too many albums that have the production and lyrical skills both at a high level. Dr. Dre. The Chronic was our introduction to Death Row. Who knew that The Chronic would become the phenomenon that it is?

5). 2Pac-All Eyez On Me. You can make a case for “Me Against The World” but I think this was Pac’s signature album. Fresh out of jail, everyone was waiting on this album, and when it was finally released you couldn’t walk the streets of Oakland without hearing this album. Even if you don’t like Pac, if you are a Hip-Hop than this album is in your collection.

6). Ice Cube-Amerika’s Most Wanted. Cube’s first Album is a masterpiece; there is not a weak track on this album. Cube is one of the most underrated rappers ever, and this album should stay in rotation. If you don’t have, go get it.

7). Scarface-The Diary. Enough said. If you don’t have this then you are playing yourself

8). Raekwon-Only Built For Cuban Linxs. I’m not much of a fan of his music now, but this album impressive, in fact its one of the better debut’s by an Hip-Hop. Rae vocab and sick flow is engaging and his album has a lot of classic cuts like Verbal Intercourse with Nas. If you are not a Hip-Hop if you don’t own this album.

9) A Tribe Called Quest-Midnight Marauders. First of all, you can’t be Hip-Hop and say you don’t like the Tribe. ATCQ is Hip-Hop should be. It was all about being original and delivering dope rhymes and Midnight Marauders has all of that and then some. You must own a tribe to be a Hip-Hop head in my opinion.

10) Public Enemy-It Takes a Nation of Million To Hold Us Back. Now I know you are probably thinking…who listens to Public Enemy, but you I promise if you get this CD then you will be impressed.

I can keep going….

The Roots “Things Fall Apart”
Common “Like Water for Chocolate”
Outkast “Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik”
Lauryn Hill - The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
Eric B. & Rakim - Paid in Full
Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
Pharcyde - Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde

Don’t say you a Hip-Hop and only have albums from 1999 thats not knowing your history. So which ones do you have? Or Don’t’ have?
