Rap City's Shame

Its not often you will catch MTV or BET on my television. I just can’t stand either station, but last Friday for some unapparent reason I decided to turn on Rap City just to see what was going on, I USE to love Rap City everyday day at 4 I was glued to the TV to watch Big Tigger, Joe Clair and Big Lez, but times change and things are so different now.

Back to the story, there was no special guest but right before I reached for the remote, this video game came on. PLEASE IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THIS VIDEO YOU NEED TO WATCH IT.

“I’m in my Red Monkey Jeans, posted on the scene…” are you serious? And BET won’t play a Little Brother video. Red Monkey Jeans are weak for one, and for two his lyrical skills are not even sub par, and this video look like they produced it in one day I would rather listen to Bow Wow then this clown, and from what I have heard this video is in regular rotation. And to make matter worst, he made references to Jordan’s and Nikes a number of times but not one time did they show this kid with some Jordan’s on his feet.

And BET wonders why the company is under attack. People have been so quick to despise rap and these television networks to change the content of these videos and BET won’t even take a step to make a change. Such a same.

New Release Tuesday...Erykah Badu

Of Course, everyone knows that Tuesday is a New Release day for DVDs and CDs. And last week while I was work, a huge smile graced my face I saw Erykah Badu’s new CD titled “New Amerykah”. And let me be the first to tell you that this CD is a banger. Ms. Badu’s has stepped away from the title as Neo-Soul queen and has embraced the new title that I have given her “Hip-Hop Ambassador”

On her new CD there is a song called “Telephone” simply amazing (check the link below. This is the best song on the album), and “The Cell” is fresh too. If you are looking to find some quality music from a great artist, then look no further then “New Amerykah”. I promise you, you will not be disappointed.

Janet Jackson came out with a new album…..SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!!! Go cop Ms. Badu.

Ma$e....What Could Have Been

Even tho I’m not the one that gave you the stones/ on the yo days alone/ bet I can make you moan/”

Do you remember when Mase first came into the game? Well I certainly do, and you can tell from the beginning that he had superstardom written all over him from his first 16 on 112’s “Only You”. The so called Gangster Rap was taking over the game, but here comes this baby face kid with flow and charisma that people could relate to. Mase’s arrival in the game at the time was refreshing; he brought in a new energy that could light up the speaker, once you heard his voice. Not to mention that he was one of the founders of the Shinny Suit trend.

Of course, rolling with Diddy who was the unofficial king of remixes at the time had Mase on every remix, even before his album dropped Mase quickly became everyone’s favorite rapper. His debut CD “Harlem World” was impressive with hits like “Feels So Good”, “Tell Me What You” and “I Need To Be”, but don’t take those commercial tracks lightly because Mase had some straight up real shit on his CD. “24 Hours To Live”, “Take What’s Yours”, and “Niggas Wanna Act” were the songs that brought out the Murda Mase before the world knew him as just Mase.

“Niggas say they love, they don’t love me
I know deep down they want to slug me
I feel the vibe when they hug me…”

Niggas Wanna Act

Unfortunately things made a turn for the worst. Like most rappers Mase formed a group called Harlem World (with Loon, Cardan and a host of others who really couldn’t rhyme), and that album was joke. Mase’s sophomore release “Double Up” just didn’t live up to the expectations, and a couple of months after the release Mase retired and found the Lord. Mase was a very talented rapper, and he could have been considered a legend if he would have stayed on tracked. It’s a shame what could have been.

We Reminisce....Goodie Mobb

The Goodie Mobb is one of those groups that you either love them or hate them, but I loved them. I don’t really mess with the south as far as Hip-Hop goes only a selected few but the Goodie Mobb was one of those group that always came with that fire. It seems like they all had different types of personalities but that is what made them so different from the rest, and they actually said something in their music. This group was supposed to follow in the success of Outkast but I’m not sure where it went wrong with them. So in memory of good music we are going to reminisce about Goodie Mobb.

Dry Spell in Hip-Hop

March is only a few weeks away, and so far in the year of 2008 Hip-Hop has been well, boring to say the least. Usually those who can’t compete with the big boys in the month of December drop in album in the month of January but that hasn’t happen yet. Nas, Rick Ross and a host of others were supposed to drop by now, but of course their albums were pushed back for whatever reason. I am slowly losing my mind because Hip-Hop is slowly becoming dry, there is nothing else to get hyped about.

So would like to know what I am doing to get by in during this dry spell????? I have been reverting back to my old school classics, you know Gang Starr, ATCQ, Biggie and The Dog Pound. But after a while that gets old too. I can only take so much. I am looking forward to the days when I can get excited about Hip-Hop right after Jay-Z dropped, Hip-Hop took a nose dive into a deep pool, and it has yet to come up from the water.

Just in case they maybe reading. Eminem, Dr. Dre, Outkast, Hip-Hop needs you, can you please drop an album, I need my fix of good music, until then I guess my old shit will do for now. I would rather listen that then listen to Soulja Boy YAH! Whatever that shit means anyway.

Kanye's Grammy Performance

Kanye West has really come into his own as a performer. Even if you are not the biggest Kanye fan in the world, you have to give him his props for this world. Even without the triubte to his mother he killed it. The end of the performance just put the cherry on top. This is Hip-Hop at it's finest live in front of America. Kanye should have put some Hip-Hop critics to rest with this performance. Enjoy My good people.

Sprite Hip-Hop Commericial

Hip-Hop in it's zenith again. There is no reason for Nas not to have more of a commerical feel, hell if Snoop can get it then he can. I know all of the words to this commerical, and do you remember the one with Grand Puba...oh wait you probably don't even know who that is....Long Live True Hip-Hop.

We Remenisce....Chubb Rock

Everybody use to dance to this joint. No its not the greatest lyrical content but Rock had a flow. This was the jam...Enjoy.
