If there is one thing that I enjoy about the 2 previous Carter albums, it’s the jump off song….”The Walk In” and “The Mobb” were crazy (see I just gave him some props) “3 Peat” just didn’t do it for me. He drops lines that were so irreverent to the song that it takes away from the other noteworthy punch lines in the song. “I tell my girl when you fuck me, better fuck me good/cuz if another girl could she gon fuck me good” Once you listen to the song you will raise an eyebrow just as I did.
What many would could consider the highlight of the album was probably the biggest disappointment. “Mr. Carter” was….what’s the word I am looking for…dull/boring/ lacking excitement/mediocre. With Jay-Z on the track you would think Wayne would pull the tightest verse out of his…but he just says the same thing he says on everyone of his songs.
While I could continue to dwell on the downfalls on the CD there are 3 tracks that are down right crazy. “Dr. Carter” which was produced by Swizz Beatz is worth a listen, its original and the concept is very creative, he is a doctor trying examining other rappers in the game. “Let The Beat Build” is dope as well. The problem with Lil Wayne’s albums is that he cannot stay consistent in his approach to an album. There are few gems but for the most part…it’s just an average CD. Just check him and T-Pain on “Got Money” (probably the worst song on the album). Other wack songs include: “Cormfortable”, “Phone Home” and “Tie Your Hands”
When Wayne raps he does say some dope shit….but so does everyone else. How you can consider yourself the best when you don’t separate your self from the rest of the class? In my opinion Lil Wayne has yet to produce a classic album….and before you say it….The first Carter was not a classic. The only thing I will give Wayne is that he works hard in the studio…he puts out 5 mixtapes a month. The Carter 3 is worth a listen, but save your money and cop the bootleg. He is so overrated.
By The Way….Is it me or do you notice a trend. His album cover is not original either.
